Climatronics Corporation is playing a significant part in "Operation Enduring Freedom". Climatronics provided the TACMET II weather sensor, mounting mast, and display software for the Remote Landing Site Tower (RLST, AN/TSQ-216) shown in this photograph from a base in Afghanistan.
Climatronics' TACMET II Weather Sensor System is a second-generation weather sensor, which includes a number of features now possible with new sensor technology resulting from our commitment to product improvement. The TACMET II is designed for maximum durability, portability, and utility, making it uniquely applicable for rapid deployment and use by one person under adverse conditions.
The TACMET II incorporates Climatronics' new, low-power sonic anemometer, the Sonimometer, with a thermistor temperature sensor, fast-response capacitive relative humidity sensor, internal barometer, and a flux-gate compass with an on-board microprocessor providing a digital output. It also has an aluminum housing and special filtering for EMI/RFI resistance. The system color is CARC-383 green.
Mobile, rugged, tactical and flexible, the Remote Landing Site Tower (RLST, AN/TSQ-216) is the newest and most deployable air traffic control tower available. Delivered to the U.S.M.C. in 2001, the RLST serves remote landing sites and provides restoral service for established airports. The system is deployable by aircraft, helicopter, or ground vehicle. Set-up is accomplished in 45 minutes by two personnel. System power is provided by redundant generators, or from an external supply. A battery back-up unit provides 2 to 4 hours of emergency power. The tower cab accommodates two operators and one supervisor. UHF, VHF, HF, HAVE QUICK and SINCGARS radios support civil and military operations. Digital switches, located at each operator position control all radio equipment. The TACMET II weather system, light guns, a hand-held radio and digital voice recorder complete the basic AN/TSQ-216 equipment suite.
